When to Book an Eye Exam
Determining whether you need an eye exam depends on several factors: your age, vision history, change in health or medications, as well as the length of time that’s passed since your last examination. To ensure a lifetime of healthy vision, we’ve provided a rough:
Infants and toddlers
(6 months to 3 years)
Get their first eye exam between the ages of six months and three years.
(3 to 19 years)
Get an exam once a year.
(20 to 64 years)
Visit an optometrist every one to two years.
(65 years and up)
Visit an optometrist every year.

As Alberta Health Care covers annual eye exams for infants, toddlers, and school-age children below 19 years of age, you don’t have to worry about having to budget their eye care in.
